CVA <-> Goons relationship is complex. A lot of goons have connections to providence, especially Merch Industrial who iirc used to be members of Paxton Federation.
Some goons respect CVA for the similarities they see in their own story. Small time guys, doing their own thing, come good.
Some goons also respect CVA in that neither entity takes themselves entirely seriously (Magic missile -> -> )
Historically,
During the great war, CVA did not take the side of either coalition. However CVA and Holders actively took part in assisting their friends and repelling those that were agressive in Providence
This came down to helping IAC, who were on the Goons side, and attacking BoB, who placed towers and claimed sov in Providence.
Goons had logistical towers in CVA's sphere of influence but they never threatened CVA, never placed anything in Providence itself and generally told their members to stay out of Provi.
Throughout this time, Goons and -A- and Bob and RA and pretty much everyone bar IAC were red to Provi-bloc.
However, the political considerations were always that a) Goons haven't done anything especially agressive, and b) that to attack Goons would have been seen to be taking the GBC side
The only reason BoB was attacked was that BoB actively went out of their way to attack PXF and IAC, and really should not have been seen in context of CVA being friendly with Goons. Simply not against
Fast forward to the present, and a similar outlook appears. The enemy of my enemy is nothing more, nothing less.
Just as some people asked whether CVA and -A- had a secret NAP, the fact was that both would keep the status quo whilst it served their interests.
The same applies with Goons and CVA. Should one have cause to make an enemy of the other and it be to their advantage, then they will undoubtedly take it to the detriment of the other
Hence why these agreements are never formalised. There is nothing legally binding about them, so to formalise them would simply create the dangerous illusion that these relationships are more than merely convenience and circumstance
However, the [enemy of my enemy]is less important than [my enemy] when choosing who to primary.
Since new year, Goons have taken the opportunity to use the CVA <-> Goons relationship for propoganda purposes. The relationship remains unchanged however from that described above
With -A- attacking Goons at the same time that LFA took systems it knew -A- would not let go without a fight, it could appear to be collusion, though this is probably not true due to CVA highly discouraging intelligence collection through spying.
To suggest that it was lucky timing would also be wrong since both CVA and -A- were probably of the opinion that -A- was slowly being weakened by lack of action. CVA/Holders took a chance to play on that weakened state of -A-, whilst -A- made to counter it with an attack on Goons.
In practice it is a mistake on -A-'s side, but they get lucky by Goons now being threatened by IT on their western border. -A- have the option of extracating themselves from fighting vs Goons if they cannot handle fighting in Catch at the same time.
All this is with the caviat that a considerable number of ppl in CVA hate Goons and vice versa, but leadership supresses this for political and practical purposes. Most of the grunts see CVA or Goons not as their real enemies, or at least not the ones before them now
(Note: None of this is new information, but a lot of people won't know the history. The exception perhaps is why CVA did not attack goon towers in Yong/Ta3T, though it has become evident since that it was good politics)
